To Read Malayalam Unicode in Windows with Internet Explorer 6.0:

  1. Download and copy AnjaliOldLipi.TTF to C:\Windows\Fonts folder.
  2. In Internet Explorer, Click Tools, Internet Options, Fonts. Select Language Script Malayalam. Then select Web page font as AnjaliOldLipi. Press OK and OK.
  3. For the malayalam webpage you are viewing, in Internet Explorer, Go to View-> Encoding and set encoding as Unicode (UTF-8).

    Thatz it.

If you feel AnjaliOldLipi font as less aesthetic, use ‘Kartika.TTF’ font, which is supplied with WindowsXP SP2

To Write Malayalam Unicode, you have three choices:

  1. Varamozhi Editor
  2. Baraha Editor (MultiLanguage Editor for Indic scripts)
  3. Direct Input, check instructions below:

How do I directly input Malayalam in rest of the applications like MSWord?

  1. Install a Unicode font as described in the first section.
  2. Use Baraha Direct in Baraha or Mozhi Keymap or Sunny’s Keymap
  3. Start writing.

I’m really impressed with this web blog and the researches posted here. I have been travelling around the world and I must admit that malayalees around the world are very successful and quick in adapting to other cultures. They are helping in improving the Indian image to the rest of the world..three cheers!!!
