This is a glimpse from the English Seminar where I introduced India to the Japanese highschool students. The students were supposed to prepare articles/newspapers on different themes of the country. Herez how they pictured diwali.
Diwali is celebrated in memory of Ram’s homecoming after 14 years of exile in the forest (epic: Ramayana).

അതെ, ഞാനോര്ക്കുന്നു.. പണ്ട് പടക്കം പൊട്ടിക്കുന്പോള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ മിക്കി (വളര്ത്തുനായ) പേടിച്ച് ബഹളം വെക്കുമാരുന്നു. ഇന്നതൊക്കെ ഓര്ക്കുന്പോള് സങ്കടം വരുന്നു. മിക്കി മരിച്ചുപോയി, ഞാന് ഇവിടെ ആയിരുന്നപ്പോള്..

എനിക്ക് രണ്ട് നായ്ക്കൾ ഉണ്ട് ദീപാവലിയുടെ അന്ന് വെടി ശബ്ദം കേട്ട് ബഹളം കൂട്ടിയപ്പോൾ നിവർതിയില്ലാതെ ഞാൻ അതുകളെ വെളുക്കുവോളം കൂട്ടിലടച്ചിട്ടു. അതിന്റെ മാനസിക സങ്ഖർഷം എനിക്ക് മനസിലാക്കുവാൻ കഴിയുന്നു. ഇതേപോലെ മറ്റൊരപകടകാരിയാണ് കത്തുന്ന മെഴുകുതിരികൾ.

well, diwali is coming up soon! DIWALI WISHES TO ALL in advance. Oh, how are the diwali dates calculated? I observed that diwali falls in October and November on alternate years! The odd years are for November. Diwali was in November 2005 and will be in October 2006, November 2007 and so on…It is one of the festivals that makes the entire place look beautiful with lamps and lights. A beautiful festival in its concept. were you invited to the High school to teach about India? By the way, are the Japanese aware that they have cultural links with India?

yes, they invite a few (8 or so) foreign students from our university every year. i will go next month also
yes, some japanese are aware of the culture links with India. yet, most of the presently dominating culture links came through china from india.

Hmm.. Diwali is a Festival of light.As an Indian I Know that Indians are very closely attached to it as the homecoming of their greatly worshipped God Ram, who after an exile of 14 years came back to his beloved capital, Ayodhya. This site is doing great for the ones who want to know about Diwali. But can somebody tell me what are you trying to ask to the viewers?
